Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's cabinet has demanded the minimum voting age in Iran be reduced from the current18 to 15 years.

During a cabinet meeting earlier this month, members of the president's administration prepared the bill which was signed off by Ahmadinejad and his Interior Minister before being presented to parliament on Wednesday.

The bill reportedly cites numerous reasons for demanding the change in the voting age, including the president's assertion that Iran's "youth" need to become more involved in the building of the country.

Supporters of the bill say it will help lend more constituent "variety" to the nation's parliamentary elections and move towards a "more just" election system, where equal opportunities are provided for all demographic groups across Iranian society.
