Facebook may be a popular tool to connect people but it may also lead

to breakups.
That's according to a study from the American Academy of Matrimonial
Lawyers. They say one in five divorce cases--mentions Facebook as
part of the tension.

The Kiefers have been married for almost 16 years.
They keep a joined Facebook account.

But for the couples that keep their virtual lives separate,
social networking could be a catalyst for splitting up--contributing
to a national divorce rate edging closer to 50 percent.

Dr. Drew Permut is a marriage counselor of 16 years.
He says sites like Facebook allow easier disclosure among people who
could be attracted to each other outside of their pre-existing
relationships.

the obamas have been married for almost twenty years, but
they've shied away heavy social networking when it comes to their
relationship. experts say this may be a good idea especially for
troubled couples whose members may be influenced to find happiness
outside of their marriage.

Ashley Seeger specializes in couples therapy.
She's been married for ten years.

But like wise old couples will usually admit, social networking or
not, a stable marriage comes down to trust.

Experts are quick to point out however that Facebook isn't the reason
for all failed marriages in the US, they say most splits are because
of an already strained relationship.
