Iran's Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi says the "Zionists' efforts" for the promotion of Islamophobia will backlash and bring about further popularity of Islam.

"The Zionists also made similar efforts during the September 11 incident in order to make people in the West move away from Islam, but they failed; the move caused further attention to Islam amongst scholars," IRNA quoted Moslehi as saying on Friday.

He referred to the call for desecration of the Qur'an by a US pastor on the ninth anniversary of 9/11, saying, "The events following the [Qur'an] desecration are indicative of the awakening of Muslims and will in the end benefit Islam and Muslims."

The Dove World Outreach Center, a small church in Gainesville, Florida, had announced plans to burn the holy Qur'an, an initiative that drew global condemnation.

Massive demonstrations were held in many countries against the US church's plan.
